heart tap 2

Heres a more graphic design i came up with for the heart tap image. the top image is the original, the bottom ones been "put through the wash" to look more like a retro tshirt . i think it'd make a nice print on a red shirt, theres something very valentine-y about it.

mechahop straight edge

hey dude, is this closer to what you wanted. theyre a little rough, but i just wanna see if i have the general idea of the cogs taking up 1/4 of the hop.

mecha Hopzilla

here are some images for the mecha hop. i think its getting there. the first image is the basic design. played around with the colors for the 2nd one.

I think what is most import is brand recognition, that being said all the work that we put into the characters is for not if we don't develop a style layout. Every character will have this layout around them as well as incorporated in the design. I like the dollar bill graphic and I think that you understand what I mean when I say we need iconography as bold and bad ass as that.

First I think we need to revisit the logo and incorporate some of this dollar bill icon. Always remembering that beer is the main focus so hops and grain are the design features that have to be used. Cervetech is lonely and I think the addition of the word Brewing would make a nice matched pair. So from know on we will always be referred to as Cervetech Brewing in any promotional materials. Our slogan is simple and to the point "Rethink you Drink", this can be written out Rethink your drink with Cervetech Brewing or Cervetech Brewing, Rethink your Drink.

Lets nail this icon layout shit which will in turn make everything else that much easier. I am attaching an image that I found

tap heart color

did a quick color change in photoshop, is this what you mean by red charcoal color? ill get started on a graphic version soon. l

closer

New heart tap image, you said you liked the first one so I made a darker more modeled heart that could really pop. kinda I love lucy-esque, let me know what you think. I could make a graphic image if youd like, Instead of using the whole charcoal look again.

Pour Heart Out roughs

A few Ideas for the design. The first one is a shaded line drawing, the handle came out a bit small, scanned kinda light. the second one is much more graphic, a simple heart icon with a pouring tap handle in profile on black, the beer pouring down could really match the cervetech swirly letters. the third one is a more realistic modeled heart with a tap sticking out. i think its a bit gross, but i like the meaty look. and the last is a simple line drawing on black with bright deco colors, might do well with the indie crowd.

Initial Beer page layout. super simple; the name of the beer, a description and a flanking picture. as you scroll down more beers will pop up. right now ive deleted the backgrounds so theres a more uniform look, but once all the characters have finalized designs ill put them back. ideally by launch ill have images for I cant believe its not flan porter, lightness monster, khenghis kahn, barrbados cheries aged russian, etc. maybe clicking on the beer sends you to a full bottle picture if available, or just the full label/sticker/what have you art work. also the double flank on the dr.jekyll/mr.hyde would be unique to that brew. I'll be working on the mock-ups for the homepage soon, which'll just serve as a small intro and blog. so for that mock up ill probably just cut and past from your old blog to fill it out. then i'll be doing the 'about us' page. which i'll need a few pics for but i'll let you know. once we have all the pages set up, we can make any aesthetic changes you'd like before actually constructing them.

Jekyll/Hyde

Take on The Jekyl Hyde Beer label idea. Still kind of a young idea, with a rough color job. Id like to put  a cool boarder around the figure to flank it from both sides, also the words black and tan respectively in a curvey cursive font. also i'd like to make the font for the characters a bit more dynamic.  as you can see, the basic idea is kind of based on an old vlad the impaler idea, where he was a mirror imaged torso. herre i plan to add some shading to both the figure in the light and the one in the shadow so they both really pop out. i've started doing this with the dr.jekyll character in the shadows for the Mr.hyde label, but id like to bring out a few more highlights. the characters end up looking like weird tentically squids made p of each others 'duality'. also ofcoarse each label for theee beers the characters are holding will star the opposite character so they're both present. let me know what you think, agaiin, its still rough but i think it'd make an interesting label

Ponce de limon update

Ponce de limon mock, stil kinda rough. I'd like to add some islands and old-timee boats in the background. also since the water design is very similar to the lightness monsters water design, I'm thinking of putting an easter egg on the label. mainly, one of the lightness monsters flippers peaking out of the water. also those are supposed to be lemons on ponce's spear.

B/T update, etc

an updated image for the new black and tan. basically just adding a bit more umph to the mr.hyde character. for the label design im still working on a way to implement each character in its own label. most of my ideas center around a dr.jekyl label with the doc behind a chemistry set with a sillouette of mr.hyde behind him. and kinda doing the opposite for mr.hyde, with a sillohette of dr.jeklly & a chemistry set behind him.
also, I needed some info on the beers from the list you gave me. looking around other sites they tend to have some of the key ingredients listed, sometimes the kind of hops, malts, yeasts, alchohol content, color, availability, bitterness, and a description of its taste, history/ideation, etc. I'm hoping to make a mock of all the pages we'll need for the site, then we can alter the aesthetics afterwards. so the beer list page and the 'about us' page are first on my list. send me what you can, i'll keep space open for the rest.

Site Mock

Initial site mock up,super simple website but i think its aesthetically pleasing. the light gray box is the body, ofcoarse there would be a scroll bar next to it. whent with the classic logo, refined the beer tap from the altered logo (black and yellow). whent with warm grey colors, i think they look good, thinking about going even warmer. the corners will have a frilly ribbon, to connect the flanking lines on the sides and bottom. the banners a little big, but if the website body is gunna be used as an updating blog, then it should work fine (since the body will be long)

Jekyl Hyde sketches

still pretty rough and streaky (marker sketch), i like the idea of mt.hyde coming out of the doctors body. if we go this rout i'll try to make the hyde character more dynamic with a better sense of movement (more like in the black and white sketch). I've also been thinking of doing a side by side composition, kinda generic and cliche for a jekyl/hyde picture but you cant go wrong with a classic. i like how the doctor looks, still not crazy on hide.

super rough idea for the site banner. everything is still pretty flat, I'd like to go in and add highlight, shadows, etc, maybe even make the letters look kinda shiny like brass. the hook from the 'c' in 'teCh' will probably become the line that makes the "H'
i'd also like to add some hops somewhere. for now i'm using a simple graphic of the tap we used for the shirts. the placement of the tap handle will be key if we decide to go this route. the banner can say anything. below this image we'd have the site buttons. i'd like to set everything up in as few buttons as possibly, fewer pages means we can have it up faster. so i'd say 4 or 5 buttons up top. let me know what you think, this is just a skeleton for the banner image, i think itd be cool if some of the cervetech characters flanked the image at the sides, maybe redone to fit this style. also if we do use the tap, maybe inverting its colors and placing it in an oval shape might work better, make it look less like a pipe from super mario

For This grey scale version i kinda whent with an old timee cartoon aesthetic. the cartoonish noodle armed vlad, the relativelt simple use of line for architecture and trees, and the actual text (for Vlad the Impaler) are akin to old popeye carttons. I think including the cerve tech logo also works well, the simplicity of the text in white surrounded by pitch black is akin to the original logo but i think it also works with the design. ive included 'a bloody good pale ale' but the text used will probably be a drippy, blood looking text, and i might push it up a bit on the label. let me know what you think, this would be pretty close to the final design if we go with it, probably add a few flourishes here and there, maybe make the black around the label more ornate. if not i also have an idea for a three toned color one, but i'd assume color would cost more to print. also i still have a few other ideas if you want to go in a completely different direction, but still use the vlad figure. things similar to the psychedelic vlad in the previous post, or we could go simpler.

Vlad Psych

rough idea for a Vlad Alt, a little simpler, less illustrative, more graphic. we'd have to make sure no accidental swastikas show up though
images for Vlad the impaler beer, The line drawing is still a bit rough, but i think the design of the figure is working. The middle and foreground might be a bit much, i have another much simpler composition that could work, but these images are the result of the initial ideation. The second grey scale image is a very rough rendition of enetering a full grey scale from black to white. It might work better with cross hatching though. what i like about the pitch black is that we'd be a ble to plug in the cervetech logo somewhere up top or in the bottom. ala 'brewed by 'cervetech logo'

Vlad Pieces

Pieces for potential vlad design. The Vlad design had been altered from the original to read/print better. the castle scape is based of the 'dracula castle' a fortified castle where dracula was almost killed (also his wife jumped out a window or something).

Sketches for Lightness monster. i have cool idea thatll really make the label pop, Ill update as soon as i have time to put it on paper. heres the basic idea though. I think the lochness monster could use some work, but i really like the layered water with white text on the bottom. I'd like to use a nice grey scale (like my graphite drawings), keeping the monster as white as possible to match the text . again this is just an initial draft, Id like to add much more zing and pazzaz to the final image.

Same image with the handle shifted to be a bit more horizontal

Maybe Final

basically the same image, the only thing thats been changed is the handle, its straighter and thinner like the original handle before the text was added. i can make the curve of the T thicker if youd like. I also have a file that has no text on the handle, if you want to choose a different text. I like the one were using, it has a vaguely coca cola feel to it.

Sunday, February 5, 2012

Played with the curves on PS to lighten the image a bit. i can go lighter, but i Def wanna keep the darker blacks.
I thInk this looks pretty good. Put together from all the different drawings, Im using the font from the cards on the handle, which means i had to make it a little wider. also the metal cylender has been extended. the bottom of the glass has also been added, regardless of wether or not itll be used. Just have to put a bit more work on the handle.

Image of glass for shirt. The bottom was cut off due to poor page planning -_-
if you think it works though i can add a bottom to the glass (or it can get cut off by the rim of the shirt, we can try both). Below is a digital composite of the two images (the tap and the glass)
PS composite of the draft And the Glass, the draft is a bit long which can work if its going up the side of the shirt, but i can shorten the distance betweeen the glass and the spout if you want. i extended the metal cylender with a copy past, if you like the design, I'll make it look more unified

Shirt One

made this Beer tap image, The text has been added in PS so its totally changeable. you had said you wanted a rougher look so i decided to use charcoal. it creates a crisp clean image from a distance but from closer you can really see the marks the hand drawn element. Im also thinking of doing a line drawing version. for the final ill hand do the tyext in a larger sheet and past it onto the handle so it looks hand drawn through out.

i think It'd be cool to do a mechanical Hop using a very graphic style, kind of like this.
Slighty more modeled tap with cervetech on the handle
All fonts are changable, I kinda like the draft tap being used as the T in cervetech. but at the moment i'm leaning towards the mechanical hop (the sketch is in the top middle-left surrounded in black). all the way at the bottom right theres a more traditional logo with cogs and tap, but i think its a bit much. still working on it, so hit me up with any ideas or images.
